Xbox is a lot more than games – Feast on this

A green lit room. A leather-clad welder. A transvestite acrobat. And some street dancers. However this wasn’t the set of David Lynch’s new movie, rather an event to launch the new services available on Xbox LIVE to a specially invited group of bloggers, journalists and influencers. This was not about the Xbox everyone knows and loves – it was time to think in a new way, to challenge preconceptions about the video gaming console and introduce some tasty new ideas – and by god we did!

With a crowd of invited bloggers & vloggers to entertain, Xbox and Doco took over The Supper Club in West London to introduce the new features on Xbox LIVE – services that include catch up TV, movies on demand, live sport & music videos all direct to your Xbox by using just your voice.

The event lasted for four exquisite hours and was split into four “courses”, each showcasing one of the new features of Xbox LIVE. The appetiser was TV – inspired by Betty’s Hot Pot (God rest her soul) – a delicious pie was served up, with a Thai green curry filling that both delighted and surprised. Xbox LIVE will bring all your live streaming and catch up TV needs together in one place – from Sky, 4 on Demand and Demand 5, simply say what you want and voice search with Bing will scour every available source and bring back everything related to your search. But not content with merely tantalising the taste buds with TV, a performance inspired by classic show The Avengers was about to feast the eye, and answered the age old question – what happens when a woman in a leather cat suit holds an angle grinder to a guitar?

Next up, Movies. Xbox LIVE offers movie streaming on demand from partners including LOVEFiLM, Zune, Sky Movies, Screenrush and Crackle direct to your TV. Fittingly everyone tucked into a course of cinema snack favourites – mini hotdogs, burgers and nachos, with tomato ice-cream! The performance to accompany this course was dedicated to the movie classic Psycho, and featured, what one of our guests succinctly described as, “a drag queen, stripping off and climbing a shower curtain to the Psycho music!” I think everyone just about got the movie reference.

The third course was inspired by Sport on Xbox LIVE, which offers live sports coverage streaming with Xbox’s current UK TV partner, Sky. Five seemingly innocent macaroons, each coloured to represent the Olympic rings, divided our guests with their savoury fillings – with chicken liver, salsa and shellfish among the offerings!

Finally we celebrated music on Xbox LIVE – with YouTube, MUZU.TV, Dailymotion and VEVO offering access to all your music needs. Two talented street dancers performed to a course of ice-cream and brownies. But not to go too mainstream with our guests, in true Supper Club style, dessert was served in a unique way – as LizJarvisUK tweeted, “never eaten dessert from a cat bowl before #firsttimeforeverything” – the perfect homage to YouTube’s vast cat video collection.

After a day of sensory experimentation, our guests left mesmerised, and excited about the future of TV entertainment with Xbox LIVE.

Join the entertainment revolution on Tuesday 6th December in living rooms around the world!

What’s new in social?

The three big players in social are drawing up the battle lines (again). They are working overtime to retain their users, attract new ones and drive incremental advertising revenue. Over the past few weeks Facebook, Twitter and Google+ have begun to roll out a series of interesting new products, services and features, each attempting to move closer to becoming a one stop feature packed super social hub.

What’s in a name? Our new offering

Doco_LogoThe launch of our new brand Doco is a very exciting moment. We’re very grateful for the support our clients have given us since Digital Outlook was set up in 1998. Over that time we’re proud to have worked on some amazing products and launches. Obviously, over 13 years, the world has changed a lot. Today, digital is more and more at the centre of people’s lives – how we share things; what we consume; and how we buy. Campaigns therefore need to not just have digital at their heart; they also need to integrate seamlessly with people’s wider lives.

Google+ and brands

Google+ is the latest social media platform to offer unique advertising opportunities for brands. However, many people have automatically presumed users won’t stray away from the already dominant Facebook.  It is important in these situations to remember that Google+ is a social media platform in its own right and therefore comes with its own set of tools and features.

Muppets on Google +

Additionally, it is highly likely that Google will make further advances with Google+ within the next year. Features such as a dedicated music store are already rumoured to be in development (http://mashable.com/2011/11/14/google-music-store-wednesday/). A few brands have already started to take advantage of the unique features that Google+ offers. The Muppets page (somewhat strangely) has become a benchmark of what can be done with the platform.
